My Own Sisterlocks

Katrina, Loving Natural, NLPrincess, Evie, 3Girlsmomma, Anthia-Ofo, and RMCandlelight thank you for the comments on the previous posts! RMCandlelight asked for an update on my locs, so here we go. What do my Sisterlocks look like after two years and nine months? Pretty much the same as they did before. HA!

The skinny ones were unraveling at the ends and loose through out. I slid the stitches down and re-tightened them. The larger one in the mix is fully mature!
There's a loose section, some bunching, over all it's not cute back there.
All serious. Overall, when all the locs are not being singled out, they look marvelous if I must say so myself. I love the way they look and very pleased with them.

I cut my hair some time in May and it looks like it's growing back.

Certified & Cut!

Hello everyone! I am now a certified Sisterlock Consultant! I also cut my hair since it was all different lengths. It is still a little funny looking since some locks are mature and others still curl up.

This darling little hair tie is by Erama. Silver is very popular for hair accessories and Erama has a vast selection of silver hair ties. She has several colors and some have danglings such as one that I hearted in Etsy "Good Hair".

Some people joke that I hustle others products just as much as I do mine. I'm just trying to keep the dollars within the community, OK! So I also purchased Cheleski's - The Knotty Truth natural hair book. I'm so proud to own it! This book will make a great gift for your relaxed friends who you are trying to get to go natural, lol. Seriously! It's an all in one guide to natural. It even has color pictures and you just might recognize a few ladies from the natural hair forums.

Moving right along, I'm waiting on a hair tie from Naturally Sophia. I grabbed MHS. She's offering free s/h so please get one while the getting is good! You have to see her cowrie puff/ponytail holder.

I missed the meet-up in Charlotte. I won't talk about that other than to say this. Ladies if you cannot make your appointment, please call your trainee/consultant. Next time!

I will be attending the Raleigh Natural Hair Meet-Up, yes. It's hosted by Natasha. WOW. I know two locked goddesses named Natasha who are hostesses for us. This one is March 21st.

I am enjoying finding beads and discs. I believe everyone else is too. I appreciate all the blog love, kind words, purchases, photos, invites to meet-n-greets, and the emails. To be honest, it's not easy at all. Anything worth having is worth working for. Can I get a witness? I'll tell all about it one day.

People keep talking about the economy, but a lot of people are still purchasing. I guess instead of buying big ticket items, a little hair ornament adds more happiness and beauty to your day. I know I enjoy making them and most of all wearing them.

I Have Curls!

I am going to a party tonight. While I had a list of beauty tasks to conquer I decided to get my hair done. I went to the nearest salon. Everyone had relaxers and their hair looked good and healthy enough for me to stay. When I had relaxers, I went every week to keep my hair from breaking off. It never stayed put unless I had Shirley Temple curls or a style plastered down with gel. The lady thought I had kinky twists and that I wanted to get services for another person. I told her I do hair too and we would get through it. She didn't mind using the Sisterlock Starter shampoo. There was no braiding and banding and she scrubbed my hair like it was laundry. It felt incredible, but I still pondered how much slippage they would suffer.

She used a setting lotion and yellow rollers. She didn't use perm rods because we didn't know how long it would take. Instead she use the open rollers that have the matching open clasps.

The dryer was from the devil's beauty shop. I even tweeted about it being so damn hot. I lifted that joker up and she turned it down.

It was well worth it. I love the curls! I do have some splippage but it's in random areas throughout. The most is about an inch and no locks slipped completely out.

I Love My Hair

This was not long after the install - maybe a month?

This is October? I love Ideal Image! Y'all would never get huge detailed pictures of me if I never had the treatments.

My hair! I really haven't taken any good pictures of my own hair. But here goes. The lower picture is the most recent one. The upload date was Oct 17th. The instal was completed February 23rd.

If you're really paying attention - my parts are LARGE, but I don't think any are over 1/2 inch. At this point I have about 230 locks. OH MY GOD! She only has 230 Sisterlocks. They are not Sisterlocks if she only has 230. Please! Remember, I designed these for ME. It's nothing for me to have 10 of them completely aloose and half unraveled. I understand my hair, the maintenance, and having the average 400 is not feasible for me. First they wouldn't stay in and secondly, I have other things to do than my own hair. Isn't they the point of getting locks - a little freedom?

My 100th Retightening

THE PIN:
Last night I went to the local, ghetto corner store and instead of the normal dime bag hustlers hanging out - there was a precious boy and his parents selling Barack pins. Children can sell me anything or get money from me easily. Even if I don't want a box of popcorn or melted M&Ms in the summer, I'll just give them the money. Selling in person is a scary thing and I sympathize with little children trying to raise money.

His father is an airbrusher and I have this plan to have him re-vamp Tomoka on wood.

THE HAIR:
I joke on the 100th retightening. I retightening as the locks slip, which is after each shampoo. I also repaired some that had gaps. I just slide the stiches down and go from there. I had one that slipped as I retightened. It was like chasing the Gingerbread Man. My ends need to be conditioned, but I'll skip that whole thing because I'll have no locks at all. Other than it growing, my hair hasn't changed.

ETSY:
I've noticed that I do not get many sales from etsy. They come from the main website. If I was picking which one to buy from, I'd go to main website myself. But if there was no choice, then etsy it would be. I don't think etsy kills sales because if a person wants a product, they'll buy it out of the back of a car. Oh well, pancakes for breakfast?

THE MUSIC:
Rarely does the radio play music that is different. Either it's top 10 R&B and Rap. We have three main radio stations and if you listen for more than two hours - you'll hear three songs by the same artist and might hear the same song again. I know they have to pay bills. Yet, my favorite station of them all is A&T's 90.1fm. They play House, Go-Go, and more. I had never heard this Love Lockdown before until listening to 90.1. The only station that plays this song. So I'm looking all over for this song. I called Tomoka who never answers the $#&! phone and always has some hot ringer and OMG she had Love Lockdown. To my surprise Kayne West! Wow, the last song I loved by him was the one with the video of him homeless with two children living in the department store and the singer was a security guard. Good music.

UPDATE - Speaking of M&Ms, a little girl was selling some in the pet store $1 per pack. I gave missy pooh $2 and told her I wanted one pack. She said that she had to sell them all before she could go home and told me that I could get two. So, I took two packs. I guess tiredness took over fear of selling. I feel you kiddo. Have a safe trip to Florida.

Dell is Sick - Hair Suffering

Well, my new Dell is sick. It had a human caused accident. The screen was working just fine but the keyboard was stuck. I took the battery out since Dell wouldn't power down. There's no reset button. After taking the battery out, it was dead to the world. Good thing I got the insurance to fix anything for free for up to 3 years. I took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they have to send Dell out. How am I online? Dell Sr. still works like a charm. My new Dell will be out for up to two weeks. I hope it's ok. They might have to replace the hard-drive or mother-board. Sad times.



My hair had a huge set-back. I shampood it. This isn't a new thing with my hair. I think this time around I'm was expecting too much from it. The medium locks either slip or come completely aloose. Slippage on them ranges from a pinky tip - two fingers in the space. One has a huge gap in the middle. A few of them used get gaps in them in very beginning. Having just one to fix is a good thing. I believe the only reason it didn't unravel completely is because the hair got tangled as it slipped out. This is perfect, maybe when I repair that lock, it won't slip out again. All in all, slippage, gaps, completely aloose - it still looks beautiful.

Slide, Slide, Slippity Slide

My hair isn't slipping as much after I shampoo it. Only two came completely aloose. I combined six locks because they keep slipping and were too skinny to begin with. Some of them have gaps in them from where they are settling near the ends and then expanding everywhere else. I really don't think my hair likes Sisterlocks, but it's never really liked any style. I'll will do another round of sliding the pattern down and retightening it. I have found that this helps keep bunching down, makes my lock more uniform, and speeds the locking process by keeping the lock in the pattern. It's time consuming, so I do a few while watching YouTube.

Banding

I've been advised to band several different ways. Twist and band. Braid loosely and then twist the ends and band. Don't braid and band - use a stocking cap. Then I thought about how I would band my ponytail like the maintenance men and truckers at work. I have six sections. Hopefully this will work successfully.

Get It Tight III

Miss Ayana suggested I use Knotty Boy shampoo as she does with her white clients. If it works for them it will work for me cause all four of my grandparents are black. Hardy, har, har! I've had my Sisterlocks for 11 weeks, washed about each week, and retightened three times. The best picture I've ever taken is with me holding some crazy shampoo. Oh well.

I was back in High Point and went to the gas store. I turned around and guess what happened. I was spotted. "Those are sisterlocks." And she goes to = too. She said she had the same problem with the nape but they don't slip as much as time goes on. Good.

Locmess Monster Continued

Everyone's seen the good - the front. Well, I wouldn't call this bad or the ugly. I loved my loose hair so it was good to feel, but it looks a hot tangled mess back there. I have a fear that it's going to look like matted dog fur if my sisterlocks don't hold.

At least one little fellow is doing well. Bless him's little heart.

Locmess Monster

This is one good arss camera. - Look at this mess. I stopped playing in my hair once I got locks. So this only time I really play in it is after I wash to separate the locks. Once I took the bands/plaits out, I could feel my hair swell as it dried. Over the next few days my locks started unraveling.

A picture is worth a million words. I have a few ones that are toughing it out.

Lost

Two or Three locks. I'm not at all surprised. I'm happy it was just those few. I wanted to add that the locks didn't fall out or break off- they slipped out leaving that tuff of hair.
