My Public Announcement - Parents V. Rap

Why are black people in jail? Rap music? Most people are in jail because of guns, drugs, and the such. Drug dealers need gun protection against other drug dealers and stick up kids. People sell drugs to make quick money. These folks don't work legal jobs with decent pay because they require degrees and experience and legal jobs drug test. Most drug dealers do drugs. Why aren't kids getting degrees? Because it costs money that their parents don't have. They don't know about school loans or too ashamed to apply. Also, they didn't do good in grade school because they were not driven. And where does the drive come from - - - PARENTS. If there is no cable there is no BET. The radio can only play so much. And yes children do sneak with their friends, but a parent can put an end to that too.
Next, rappers degrade women because women degrade themselves by throwing themselves at them. These women want quick money. Please see above scenario.

What Degrades Me - Not Hip-Hop and Rap

I was degraded when a black actress got a leading lady award for getting buck naked on camera with a nasty looking white man - and asking him to make her feel good. Which leads me to comment that the most handsome and famous black actor didn't get a leading man award until he was a dirty cop and cheater - degrading.

I find it degrading when women parade on stage in swim suits and get their self-worth judged on beauty and average talent skills for money and recognition while Donald Trump sits back and rolls in the dough - degrading.

Any female singer that has to shake her behind in every video, especially if it's so grand that Oprah wants to learn how to do it, roll around on stage, wear outfits that are nothing but baby doll nighties and boy shorts - degrading.

I'm degraded when the same black singer consistantly puts out negative relationship songs for women to boo-hoo to and listen to while having self pity parties. Is your self-worth based on a man and every time one hurts you you have to cry about it? Thank goodness she has no more drama in her life.

Which brings me to the next young lady. I was horribly degraded when an American idol glorified being a baby mama and told everyone it was ok to be a baby mama. For the single mothers - there is 'Thanks for My Child'. And most of the songs from that baby mama album - pity party songs about not being wanted by some man. That's degrading.

Act Too (Love of My Life) Hip-Hop

This post is actually a response to a post of the beautiful educator Kim.

It's easy to attack the rap, but rap has been around since 1977 - racism and sexism have been around longer than that. As a black woman I am in more contact with rap than metal/rock/roll, so I will see the negative in rap before I see it in those other music genres. A black woman saying take rap off the airwaves is music to white people's ears. Do away with rap - the one form of music that hasn't been stolen from us yet. I wish people would get a cd and listen to the songs that don't make it to the air. You are only allowed to have so many hits on an album. To get the fly by night folks to buy an album based on one song takes a whole lot. Half the time folks aren't listening to the lyrics but the music and chorus, so if it's sexual, about glorifying yourself, pimping, and cars - it's going to sale. A true fan doesn't buy a cd based on what they put on the radio. Most rappers were gangsters and they rap for gangsters, hustlers, for the streets. They tell them how horrible it is, seeing folks get shot, put in prison, and how to get out of the whole ganster game through rap. Most of it is not for children. Children only hear what coporate America wants them to hear - negative black men talking negatively about everything. Children can't go buy the whole cd because they aren't old enough. And if they do get a cd rap is so encoded that they are not going to understand anything but the 'n' the 'b' words. As far as the radio - I flip until I find something or put in a Jay-Z cd. I long ago stopped watching BET music videos because they played rap music that would pull in ratings and cross-over to the white people. Since then I stopped watching tv.

I did have some typos that I fixed. Here and hear are something else when you're typing fast. To add to this I would for people to pick up rap and/or hip-hop music that isn't on BET and the radios. I do agree that negative words and images have no place on the airwaves but pick and choose your fights carefully. And when your words aren't working - there is always the power of money. Boycotting works. Turn the tvs and radios off. Personally, I don't want my future children listening to Sexual Healing, Strokin', on the smooth, classic soul, and R&B stations.

I Love Music

Any kind of music. If you have your sound on - you can hear it. I was in the process of pimping my myspace and decided to put the music on here too. After going through a lot of my favorite rap songs that I thought were clean - no sex, no whores, no killing, no kilos and pounds of weed, no cussing anybody out - there's always The word. Gosh and I really like Snoop Dogg's Crazy he's got Nate Dogg on there singing his heart of as usual.

All the music should feel good - it sure makes me feel good. The George Michael's One More Try might be a little out of place - but it is a good song - that's for Zeal along with the book I'm writing. Some songs you may know, some you might not know. They're all cute.

Feel So Good - This is one of Pop's favorite jazz songs. He loves Herbie Hancock's Watermelon man, anything by Miles Davis, and Quincy Jones. I forgot Barry White. I couldn't find Look At Her. I did a short story with that song as an inspiration.

Strawberry Letter 23 that's for Michael Stone who was the love of my life and he never knew it. He was tall, light, thin, and went into the Marines or Air Force. If you know him tell him I love him. If he's married - you don't know who I IS.

For my sister - Double Dutch and Tom Tom. And I can't stand Mary J, sorry Mother. So, for you, all the songs by the cute men and men with nice bodies. - John Legend, LL, Usher, and Gerald.

Get Me Bodied - My name is not Carmen - Carmen is my Beyonce self. Carmen would love to dance to this song with Shawn Jay of Field Mob. He's the lighter brother of the duo if you happen to know the group. OMG, I just googled him up and he just got arrested too for carrying a concealed weapon. He has no bail. His next court date isn't till 4/9 and can only have 1 visit for 2 hours each week.
