Where Do I Get My Beads & Wire II

This is the response to the question "Why do you want to know where I get my beads?"

I make bracelets and was looking for cool beads. I've asked around about different craft materials. Thought you could help but I guess I was wrong. I've been given good sites to visit and places to actually go to in Chicago so forget I asked. Don't worry about it. You don't have to respond to this e-mail I was just responding to your question. Thanks for you time.
Jane

WOW

My response even though I was told that I didn't have to respond.
Hello Jane,
Many people have inquired about the beads and wire with intent to make their own. To answer your question, x is a good resource. Googling for beads leads to stores. Local stores are useful as well. I may use beads from other jewelry. The wire is from a local store. The best advice I can offer is do some searching. I spend a lot of time looking for beads and have others looking and buying too. Also, crafters are only helpful if they genuinely like you and your art. Lighten up and just because I asked you a question does not mean that I do not want to help you.
Sincerely,
Carmen

Now I've shared this email with a few people and all of them have asked why didn't she mention her bracelets, send a link to a fotki, website, or attach a picture in the first email. They all came to the conclusion that she was LYING because she came off with a serious attitude. I know people say you can't tell the tone of a person through written word, but in this one, I sense she wasn't pleased with my question.

I believe people target me because they think that I have a fan base. My blog doesn't really get that many hits. I put sitemeter and statcounter on the blog because my posts went without comment. That's pretty lame, vain, pathetic, desparate, but it did cross my mind. I was thinking maybe I should stop blogging. Never that. I stopped tracking my hits a while back because most of the hits were coming from people looking up Sisterlocks, PCOS, or low blood pressure.

Then it hit me. I really don't blog about much to have people stopping by my blog. I don't talk about popular things - politics, hair, new fashions styles, or celebrities, how hard it is being a black woman, or how the media makes us feel. I have a simple solution. I just turn off the tv. That way, when I see my reflection in the black screen - I'm the prettiest woman on tv. I don't have children to show cute pictures of. Ciara is not the type of dog to get 'your dog is so cute' comments. She's prettier than most dogs, but for goodness sakes, who says a petite boxer/pit is pretty but the owner and a man. And when men say it it's because they get a chance to say, "Oh she's a pretty b****." Just because she's a female dog doesn't mean she likes to be called the technical term. Her name is Ciara.
Back to people sending me emails. I get emails like this from time to time. I don't share them with you because, I like to think I'm protecting people from harsh comments and products that might be offensive.
Find people who have been blogging with a fan base. Afrobella. I believe Naturally Sophia is the next Afrobella. Send her products to try and blog about. Sophia - people will send you free stuff!!! Think about it.

I leave you good ladies with this video.

Try not to let it bother you... we live in a society where people feel so entitled to everything (yes, even the fruits of the labor you spent trying to find good bead sources). It's funny because I just deleted the draft of an email I was going to send you a while back about good sites for donut/focal beads and it specifically stated what I wanted them for. I didn't send it because I'm Little Miss I-Wanna-Know-Now and decided to spend some time researching the internet instead... the info is there, they just need to put the work in.

Can you pretty please email her back and ask for a link and/or pics of her products, just for me cause I'm nosy like that lol.

Loves it :)

Hmmm, as I suspected. Your response was quite professional and assertive.

Girl, I think blogging is more about self-expression than anything else. Yeah, it would be great to get thousands of hits, but not everyone will have that kind of success, or even right away. Just keep doing your thing faithfully - the blogging and your business ventures, etc.

Just remember me when you get famous. :)

Baby bangs is so adorable! My daughter was born with a full head of hair, so I wouldn't have needed it but I see babies all the time in public that could really use a wig. Who would've thought they had wigs for babies?

As for that lady who emailed you, I thought she got a little defensive too. Some people think they can ask you anything and you can just tell them everything. I agree with N'drea that your response was, once again, great. It's kind of hard at times to gauge people's intentions when they're inquiring about what you do, especially when you don't know them and never met them.

As for blogging, when I started my first blog when I was 14 or so, the goal was to get a lot of people to read it. Now I just put things on my blog simply to remember. There are things I want to chronicle that are a big part of who I am right now. I don't talk about what every one else talks about on their blogs either, and used to be concerned about that but not anymore. I simply want to see my blog evolve with me and not about whatever is hot at the time.

if blogging is @ being a part of someone else's "fan base" or having your own, then i would definately stop now. for me, it's not about that. i like reading/writing interesting life stories by, for and about people with whom i may have some common interests. like where else would i go and get blasted by epmd. [*note to self, remember to turn volume down when visiting carmen's blog so as not to wake the sleeping one].
re: "I just turn off the tv. That way, when I see my reflection in the black screen - I'm the prettiest woman on tv." you need to copyright that, put it on a t-shirt or at least email to all of your friends!

s0utherngirl - She hasn't responded as of yet. If she ever does I will ask for pictures. I've sent an email out with all the information for donuts because I just wanted a red one, but it came in a set of 12 different ones. I just can't get over the fact that she got sassy because she asked a question. I didn't get sassy with her. LOL

N'drea - You hit the nail on the head. I swear I try to be as helpful as I can. But when that question comes up, I try politely to let them know I just can't tell every single detail. Anyways, when I buy beads, I buy ALL of them. If I tell where I get them and that person catches them in stock before I do, then they might buy them all. So, I've shot myself in the foot.

Jewels - I blog for myself too. Like most of the videos are ones that I really like. My memory is shot and trying to keep up with links is hard too, so when I want to share something - I can just tell them to go to my blog. "It's on the blog. Keep looking. You ain't looking hard enough."

muslimahlocs - I'm sorry for the EPMD (actually Eric B. & Rakim), it's a reminder to myself to install Word on my laptop so I can download all my stories and poems. I personally don't like music on a page, so it'll force me to get Word soon.

alayio - I was hoping I wasn't being to hard on the lady. Telling someone no is hard to do and many people will do something they don't want to do just to please the other person. I have learned the hard way, that I have to please myself first. Baby Bangs - the creator sent me the an email a while back and I was very hesitant to share it on my blog because people will tell it like it T-I is on the internet. I read some of the comments on youtube for this video and it is as real as it can get. I am not one to crush somebody's dream, but not ever idea is a good idea.
