Transparent

One of my twitter friends @ifeelgod said @carmennc how about blogging about figuring what to blog about.

I have a lot to say, so I'll start with the cute, harmless, lol, stuff first. I really like Rich Boy. I like his music and he has a good heart. In the clip I link he's talking about how people see black men where he's from and pretty much everywhere. Yeah Obama won, but still.... I also think he's cute too. And Beyonce! Folks want to hate on her, Rhianna, whoever. These women are out here dancing in high heels, and singing, and trying to keep their heads above water like everybody else. I found the cutest Sims video of her Lost Yo Mind. I heard her Diva in the club Saturday night. It's a true throw back beat. I have them all saved in my youtube favorites if you care to see.

I believe I'm in love too. It's subtle little things that have changed to let me know that it's not infatuation anymore.

I always thought it was rude to ask people if they are ready for Christmas. For one, not everybody on this earth is a Christian. I'm not. I take the best of all religions and put them together and leave out the stuff I can't get with and talk to God about it. All that pressure of not eating this and that and no sex before you're married, hating on people because a book says to hate them is too much to ask of me. I never really understood church. There's no group conversation. It's one person telling you his interpretation of the word. What about what I think? I read it too and have thoughts on it too.

Another thing about Christmas, it's about gifts. People try to incorporate Jesus, but face it, it's the gifts that people want. I think Thanksgiving is a far better holiday. At least people are doing it to break bread with family. There's no pressure of buying stuff other than food. I just tell folks Happy Holidays.

Having your own business and you're the only one running the show, is hard. You really can't say exactly what you want to say. It requires a lot of self-control or just a thick layer of skin with a lot of shea butter on it. Let the foolishness slide right off before it sinks in and keep it moving to the next task. Everyone's talking about how to market your business, how to start a business, but they never tell you how to really be a business owner.

Time to put my skin back on, I've made myself transparent enough so you can really see what goes on in my mind and how my heart feels. Peace and Happy Holidays!

Great post! I loved what you said about religion. That's just what I do. And despite being reared in Christian religions, I'm not one, either (boy, that gruff you can get around that! I think I"ll blog about it today). Anyway, thanks for "being transparent."

Wonderful post. I love the shea butter reference (I may have to steal that one). I think you should write a book about owning a business (the truth behind the scenes type book- there aren't many out here) - and not an e-book I'd like to have a copy I can carry around with me ;o)

BTW: I'm going to show off - I mean wear my crystal twist and earrings to Christmas Dinner :o)

I couldn't agree with this post more. Running your own business requires a lot of restraint and it can be difficult at times. I use Merry Christmas only when I'm sure that the person I'm talking to celebrates Christmas and Happy Holidays when I'm not exactly sure. I am tolerant of everyone's religion and wish that everyone would just accept Happy Holidays as a way of including everyone instead of assuming that everyone is Christian.

**Sigh of relief** I've gotten that off my chest along with ya sista. haha

Loved that Rich Boy video, that was cute. Half of my family is from Alabama, and the racism is still so overt it's almost unbelievable.

Aww woman, thanks everyone for your comments and being understanding to my thoughts and feelings. That's what I try to offer to others and I'm going to keep on doing that and being me.

Laquita, I started writing the book, too.

Thank you for this post..... Transparency looks good on you!

I personally feel Happy Holidays works best for everyone but many are overly offended when they don't hear Merry Christmas... What's so "merry" about people putting second/third/fourth mortgages on their houses to purchase gifts for their children?

Happy Holidays! I don't think I told you that in my previous comment.

With you on religion, church, and christmas. I said to my husband, "I wonder if our customers notice that we do not send out holiday greetings."

You hit the nail on the head about the business "experts". That is a big peeve for me. I expressed that all the time to my husband and sisterfriend. It is no joke building a business! I continue to go with my gut and heart.

Smell Goods Lady, I looked into doing business cards and it's a little business in itself. I would have to go through emails to find addresses. Buy enough cards, and sign and address each, postage, and send them out. I said on the blog that instead of sending out cards and killing trees, I would offer free/discounted s/h.

I always think the books offer the same generic advice and leave out something intentionally as not to have the next company move up to be a competitor. I don't think Pepsi is going to offer Coca-Cola all the tips or visa versa.
